Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday clarified his recent comments accusing India of involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen and Khalistan supporter. Trudeau emphasized that Canada is not trying to provoke India but wants New Delhi to address the issue seriously.
"The government of India needs to take this matter with the utmost seriousness. We are doing that, we are not looking to provoke or escalate," Trudeau told reporters.
Trudeau's accusations stem from allegations of a potential link between Indian government agents and Nijjar's killing, which occurred in June. In response to this, Canada expelled Indian Diplomat Pavan Kumar Rai, escalating tensions between the two nations.
India vehemently rejects these allegations, considering them absurd and motivated. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement asserting India's commitment to the rule of law and dismissing any involvement in acts of violence in Canada.
