Accident on Maa Flyover leaves one dead, four injured

In a tragic incident that unfolded on Friday night, a horrifying accident occurred at Kolkata's Maa Flyover, resulting in one fatality and leaving four individuals critically injured.

The incident took place at around 12:30 AM when a car, en route from Nagad Park Circus to Chingrighata, was carrying five people, including the driver. Tragedy struck as the vehicle approached the turning point near Science City, losing control and colliding with the lamppost divider. Subsequently, the car toppled into the adjacent lane, causing the lamppost to fall as well. Authorities were promptly notified, and both the police and ambulance services rushed to the scene. Officials from the Disaster Management Group (DMG) and the City Security Control Officer (CSCO) also arrived.

The driver died at the scene of the accident. The four remaining passengers were trapped inside. With the help of a cutter, the vehicle was cut and the remaining four people were rescued and sent to SSKM Hospital. All four people are in critical condition.

According to an eyewitness account, the car was traveling at an excessive speed, significantly above the normal limit, which ultimately led to the loss of control and the subsequent accident. It took approximately two hours to restore traffic flow to its usual state on the airport road following the tragic incident.
