Ration distribution corruption: ED preparing to send notice to Food Department officials

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is gearing up to send notices to officials of the state food department as part of the ongoing investigation into the high-profile ration distribution corruption case. A senior ED official revealed this development on Monday, indicating a significant step in the probe.

The investigation focuses on the recovery of original seals and stamps of the Food Department from the residence of ration businessman Bakibur Rehman, the initial suspect in the case. Officials from the Food Department who facilitated this access to Rehman will be questioned, starting with current responsible officers, possibly including IAS officers of secretary rank.

The central agency is perplexed about how Rehman obtained the state government's login ID and password, granting him access to the credit of subordinate offices within the Food and Supplies Department. Seized government seals include those from the West Bengal Essential Commodities Supplies Corporation Limited and various district-level offices.
