Salman Khan lights up Kolkata International Film Festival 2023 opening; Australia takes center stage

The Kolkata International Film Festival 2023 is set to kick off with the grand inauguration by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, featuring Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as the special guest to declare the event open. Salman Khan was warmly received by West Bengal Minister Babul Supriyo upon his arrival in Kolkata.

The inauguration, scheduled for Tuesday, will witness the presence of esteemed guests, including actors Anil Kapoor, Kamal Haasan, Shatrughan Sinha, Sonakshi Sinha, cricketer Sourav Ganguly, and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. The opening film, "Deya Neya," starring the legendary Uttam Kumar and Tanuja, adds a touch of timeless elegance to the festival.

In a unique cultural exchange, Australia takes the spotlight as the Special Focus Country at the Kolkata International Film Festival 2023. Celebrating the deep ties between Australia and India, the festival aims to foster a cinematic collaboration.

Australian High Commissioner to India, His Excellency Philip Green, emphasized the importance of mutual understanding through films, with a special retrospective of director Bruce Beresford's work. The festival offers a diverse selection of films, including contemporary works, the retrospective of Bruce Beresford, and a curated section of horror films, featuring the intriguing "Tram of Horror" traversing the streets of Kolkata.
