In the wake of the controversy surrounding the mimicry incident by Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar issued a stern response on Wednesday. Expressing his indifference to personal insults Dhankhar said, “...I don't care about how much you insult Jagdeep Dhankhar. But I can't tolerate (insult of) Vice President of India, farmers community, my community... I will not tolerate that I could not protect the dignity of my post, it is my duty to protect the dignity of this House..”
The controversy unfolded after video clips surfaced, depicting Kalyan Banerjee allegedly mimicking the mannerisms of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The incident occurred during a mock sitting of the House, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi observed recording the mimicry on his mobile phone. The videos quickly went viral, sparking public outrage and demands for disciplinary action against Kalyan Banerjee.
Critics have raised concerns about the seriousness expected from elected representatives, questioning the appropriateness of recording and sharing such moments.
