North Kolkata filtered water supply to be disrupted on Dec 16-17 due to Tallah Pump repairs
The Supreme Court, in response to a petition highlighting the failure of the anti-collision system Kavach in preventing train accidents, has directed the government to provide information on measures taken to avert such incidents. Filed after the tragic June 2022 Odisha train accident, the plea by Supreme Court lawyer Vishal Tiwari questions the efficacy of the automated Kavach system and emphasizes the lack of safety mechanisms to prevent train accidents.
The bench, comprising justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan, directed the petitioner to hand over the petition to the Attorney General, R Venkataramani, within two days. Venkataramani will apprise the court about protective measures in four weeks. The plea refers to the Coromandel Express derailment near Odisha's Balasore, highlighting the need for strict judicial intervention to ensure public safety.
