The three-day internationally renowned Rajgir Mahotsav will be held from November 29 this year. Nalanda DM Shashank Shubhankar added that the schedule was finalized in consultation with Bihar's state tourism development department, which is also co-hosting the Mahotsav.

Revealing the details of the events that will be included in this year's Mahotsav, the DM said that the seven-day 'Gram Shri Mela' is aimed at promoting rural arts, which would also be organized in the Mahotsav area. There will also be a book fair, a food fair, an entertainment zone, and an agricultural fair.

He said that the traditional 'tonga' and 'palki' decoration competitions, painting competitions and Sadbhavna procession would also be organized during the three-day extravaganza. And to ensure smooth operation, the district administration has created 32 cells to be supervised by senior district officials.

Rajgir Nritya Mahotsav was initiated by the then Union Tourism Minister HK L Bhagat and then Bihar CM Bindeshwari Dubey in the Sone Bhandar area in 1986 when it used to be a low-key affair attended mostly by officials and a limited number of visitors. It was brought to the sprawling Qila Maidan in 2011 by the then Nalanda DM Sanjay Kumar Agrawal.
