Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Kashi Tamil Sangaman in Varanasi saying, "Kashi and Tamil Nadu are the timeless centers of our culture and civilization. Both regions are the centers of the world's oldest languages - Sanskrit and Tamil."
Addressing the 'Kashi-Tamil Sangamam' in Varanasi, the Prime Minister said it was the collective responsibility of 130 million Indians to preserve the rich Tamil heritage. He added that we also have the ancient Indian language Tamil and it is still as popular and alive as before.
Talking about the contributions of scholars from the south, the PM said, “I have experienced, from Ramananujacharya and Shankaracharya to Rajaji and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, we cannot understand India without understanding the insights of the scholars from the south."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was speaking at the launch of the month-long 'Kashi Tamil Sangamam' program in Varanasi to rediscover, reaffirm and celebrate the age-old ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi - the country's two most important and oldest learning capitals.
The program was organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with other ministries such as Culture, Textiles, Railways, Tourism, Food Processing, Information and Broadcasting and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
More than 2,500 delegates from Tamil Nadu in 12 categories such as students, teachers, literature, culture, artisans, clergy, heritage, commerce, entrepreneurs and professionals will visit Varanasi on an eight-day tour.
