EaseMyTrip responds to accusations, defends decision to suspend flights

As the diplomatic tensions between India and Maldives escalate, EaseMyTrip CEO Nishant Pitti has responded to allegations of "instigating" the conflict by defending his company's decision to suspend flight bookings to the island nation. Amid accusations on social media, Pitti asserted that the move was not politically motivated but rather a response to the Maldivian government's anti-India sentiments, which surfaced as early as November 2023.

Pitti clarified that the decision was influenced by the Maldives' political shift towards China and their desire to reduce Indian tourist presence. Addressing the criticism, he stated, "Perhaps, we would have done the same, no matter which government was ruling in India, as it just made sense to uphold the dignity of our country." The response from EaseMyTrip comes amidst heightened tensions, with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu urging India to withdraw its troops from the archipelago by March 15.
