Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has strongly criticized opposition parties, particularly the state BJP, for engaging in politics around sensitive crime and development matters during a debate on the Motion of Thanks in the State Legislative Assembly. Patnaik emphasized that such actions could negatively impact the state's image and denounced the politicization of critical issues. He asserted that defaming the state for narrow political interests was unforgivable and highlighted instances where certain parties attempted to hinder projects and block state development initiatives.
During the debate, Patnaik specifically addressed the state BJP's alleged interference in the PARI rape and murder case, accusing them of stalling justice. The CM emphasized that the people of Odisha were well-aware of the parties attempting to derail the judicial process.The Nayagarh Children's Court recently sentenced the accused in the Pari case to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Patnaik also highlighted the achievements of his government, noting a 20% reduction in crimes against women and an almost doubled conviction rate. Additionally, he pointed out Odisha's status as the number one revenue surplus state in the country and emphasized the state's crucial role in providing free COVID-19 testing and treatment, with Odisha-produced oxygen contributing to saving lives across 17 states.
