Robert Lewandowski's World Cup goal drought continues as the star Poland striker missed a golden opportunity against Mexico ahead of Tuesday's 0-0 draw in Group C.
The Barcelona striker was brought down in the penalty area in the second half by Hector Moreno and subsequently by Lewandowski himself after a long VAR evaluation of the penalty. However, Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa stopped Lewandowski's effort.
Ochoa has saved 17 penalties in his career, including four for Mexico. Poland and Mexico played out a goalless first half as Mexican forward Alexis Vega missed two opportunities to open his side's account.
The 24-year-old initially failed to connect with winger Hirving Lozano's cross early in the match. Vega then sent a header just wide in the 24th minute.
