'Journalists should stay away from politics': Sagarika Ghose's old tweets go viral

The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) announced journalist Sagarika Ghose's nomination among four candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha Elections, sparking controversy as her old tweets resurfaced. Ghose, a prominent journalist and vocal critic of the Modi government, faced criticism as netizens shared her past tweet advising journalists to stay away from politics, highlighting what they perceived as hypocrisy given her nomination.

In a 2018 tweet, Ghose had advocated for journalists to maintain independence from political affiliations, stating that compromising this independence is detrimental.

However, her nomination to the Rajya Sabha prompted social media users to call out what they saw as a contradiction, with one user dubbing her the "Queen of Hypocrisy" and another sharing an old video of Mamata Banerjee walking out of an interview by Ghose. The TMC, in their announcement, expressed confidence in Ghose and the other nominees, emphasizing their commitment to upholding the party's legacy and advocating for the rights of all Indians.
