In one of the biggest crackdowns against mobster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his gang, the Prayagaraj police on Wednesday seized his property worth Rs123.28 crore at the Havelia area of Jhunsi in the trans-Ganga region. The properties in the name of Atiq's father Mohd Feroz and relative Mohd Usman were bought with ill-gotten money and have been blocked under the Gangsters Act, police officials said. So far, the police and PDA have attached assets worth Rs 31.5 crore belonging to Atiq and his relatives in Prayagaraj, Lucknow and Kaushambi districts.
SP City Santosh Kumar Meena said 13 bighas of land in the Havelia area of Jhunsi were attached under Section 14(1) of the Gangster Act filed at Dhumanganj police station. The properties were identified and after the approval of the District Magistrate, action was taken. “This is one of the biggest drives against IS-27 gang leader and history writer Atiq Ahmad and more properties are being identified in Prayagraj and other places,” he added.
Police teams of Dhumanganj, Puramufti, Jhunsi, Kydganj and Georgetown led by Santosh Kumar Meena of SP City and administrative officials reached the Havelia and put up attachment order boards. Officials warned against any intrusion on the attached. One of the attached plots is 1.8260 hectares, estimated at Rs 76.16 crores, while another plot is 1.1300 hectares, estimated at Rs 47.12 crores. Both are in a great location in Havelia.
Atiq Ahmad has 100 cases against him in various police stations of Prayagraj and Lucknow for serious crimes including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion, threats, fraud, conspiracy and land grabbing as well as cases under Arms Act, Gangsters Act . , CLA etc.In the first phase of action against Atiq in August 2018, PDA and Prayagaraj police demolished structures on illegal plots in Alina City, Ahmad City, Sai Vihar, Saidpur Awas Yojna, Lakhanpur Awas Yojna etc. Now police will seek details of these properties from departmental revenue and attach is under the Gangster Act.
In addition, the police will occupy the lands of Atiq, his relatives and associates, where the structures were demolished by the PDA. Besides, Prayagraj police also attached two properties of Atiq in Lucknow. Police are also probing Atiq's two properties in Noida and Delhi, which will also be attached to the Gangsters Act.
