North Kolkata filtered water supply to be disrupted on Dec 16-17 due to Tallah Pump repairs
The five men, Shivarathri Mallesh, Shivarathri Ravi, Gollem Nampally, Dundugula Laxman, and Shivarathri Hanmanthu, were convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2005 for their alleged involvement in the death of a Nepalese national while working in Dubai. BRS claims that KTR played a pivotal role in facilitating their release. According to BRS, KTR visited Nepal to meet the family of the deceased, Bahadur Singh, a Nepalese national who worked as a watchman in Dubai.
In adherence to Dubai laws, the possibility of the men's release hinged on Bahadur Singh's family members seeking forgiveness. KTR is said to have convinced the family to do so, facilitating the signing of an amnesty with the help of a lawyer and other representatives.
The BRS party alleges that KTR contributed to the cause by presenting a 15 lakh cheque to Bahadur Singh's family. Initially rejected by the Dubai court, the amnesty petition was eventually approved after KTR, with assistance from the Union Ministry of External Affairs, secured an audience with the King of Dubai in September 2023. This concerted effort paved the way for their release from prison.
