In yet another development in the ongoing investigation, the ED has issued a seventh summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the alleged liquor scam. Kejriwal, who serves as the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, is expected to appear for questioning on February 26th. This move comes after Kejriwal has previously ignored six summons from the Central Investigation Agency, consistently labeling them as politically motivated and illegal.
"We have replied to all summons from the ED. In court, the last date was February 17th and CM Arvind Kejriwal was virtually present there. The next date of hearing is March 16th. We are law-abiding people; whatever the court says, we will follow. ED should have waited for the verdict on the case. So this is a wrong summons," AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said on Monday.
Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned a total of seven times since November. Sometimes he refused to appear, saying that he was busy with elections and sometimes with the budget session. Arvind Kejriwal has also expressed apprehension that he may be arrested before the elections. CM of Delhi had said that a conspiracy was being hatched to arrest him to stop him from campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections. Senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Vijay Nair have been arrested in the money laundering case related to the alleged liquor scam in which Kejriwal has been summoned.
