The Supreme Court has taken a stern stance against Patanjali Ayurved, co-founded by yoga guru Baba Ramdev, issuing a contempt notice for allegedly violating the undertaking given in court regarding product claims. A bench comprising justices Hima Kohli and A Amanullah directed the notice to Patanjali Ayurved and its managing director, raising concerns about the company's statements regarding the medicinal efficacy of its products. The court questioned why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them, highlighting a prima facie violation of the court's previous directive.

The bench not only emphasized the alleged breach of the undertaking given by Patanjali Ayurved in November 2023 but also cautioned the company against making adverse statements about any system of medicine in the media. This includes both print and electronic forms, reiterating the earlier commitment made by the company's counsel that there would be no violation of laws related to product advertising or branding. The Supreme Court is currently addressing a plea by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) accusing Baba Ramdev's organization of running a smear campaign against the vaccination drive and modern medicines.
