The Election Commission is gearing up to announce the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, anticipated to occur in the second week of April, as per sources. It is speculated that the election code of conduct may be enforced around March 14-15 in preparation for the electoral process, with voting projected to be conducted in seven phases, akin to the 2019 elections. A press conference scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, by the Election Commission is expected to shed light on the election preparations, although it remains uncertain whether the announcement of election dates will occur during the briefing.
Sources suggest that the Election Commission is currently touring various states to evaluate the readiness for the general elections, with plans to conclude these assessments by March 13. Following engagements in West Bengal, the Commission will proceed to Uttar Pradesh and then to Jammu and Kashmir. It is anticipated that the election dates will be unveiled shortly after the completion of these evaluations, as the Commission is in close coordination with Chief Electoral Officers across all states.
