The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a change in the date of counting of votes for the legislative assembly elections of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim from June 4 to June 2. This alteration in schedule comes after the ECI issued a revised schedule, citing the term end of both legislative assemblies on June 2. According to constitutional mandates, elections must be conducted before the conclusion of their respective terms. Consequently, the poll body modified the election schedule, rescheduling the counting of votes to June 2 while maintaining the original schedule for parliamentary constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
In addition to this modification, the ECI also unveiled the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and assembly polls in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. The Lok Sabha elections across 543 constituencies will be conducted in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. Furthermore, the assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are slated for April 19, coinciding with phase 1 of Lok Sabha elections, while Andhra Pradesh will vote on May 13. Odisha will witness assembly polls across four phases on May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, with the results slated to be announced on June 4.
