Opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari has stirred controversy by accusing Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim of negligence regarding illegal construction activities in the Garden Reach area. Posting on social media, Adhikari questioned Hakim's knowledge and involvement in the matter. Posting to the X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, he raised four questions about the GardenReach incident. One of them is the role of Municipal Minister Firhad. Shuvendu has raised several complaints against the councilor of the concerned ward.
"Currently, the number of illegal constructions in Gardenrich alone is more than 800. The area is Firhad's 'fortress'. This illegal work is happening in his area with the tip of his nose and he doesn't know anything, is it believable?'' Shuvendu added.
In response to Shuvendu's question, Trinamool leader Shantanu said, "Opposition leader need not worry about the matter. Because the Chief Minister herself went to the spot and spoke to the people of the area, the administration. She promised help. The Chief Minister said that all those involved in illegal activities will be punished. None of the guilty will be spared.''
Before that, Firhad also stood by the local councillor. Said, “It is not possible for a councilor to understand which is a valid construction and which is illegal. It is the administration's responsibility.
