The Income Tax Department's search operation in the city has entered its third day, with officials continuing their investigation at the residence of Swaroop Biswas, the brother of state minister Arup Biswas. The operation, initiated at 6 am on Wednesday, is based on allegations of income tax evasion and possession of undisclosed assets against Swaroop Biswas. Alongside his residence, the search operation also targeted the office of Swaroop's wife, Trinamool councilor Jui Biswas, as well as the residence of construction businessman Rana Sarkar, known to have close ties with Swaroop Biswas.
Last Wednesday, income tax raids were conducted at six locations, marking the onset of this ongoing investigation. The inclusion of Swaroop Biswas's household, along with his wife's office and the residence of a business associate, underscores the widening scope of the probe. These actions reflect the intensified efforts of the Income Tax Department to scrutinize individuals suspected of financial irregularities and undisclosed assets.
