Gunshots have been reported at Kolkata Airport, with gunfire heard near Gate 5 from the watchtower. The incident caused panic among airport personnel. Initial reports indicate that a CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel on duty was found injured on the ground, with a gunshot wound to the throat, possibly self-inflicted using his service rifle.
The injured CISF jawan, identified as Shri Vishnu, was immediately transported to a nearby private hospital near China Park for medical attention. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead around 9:30 am. Vishnu, aged 25 and from Telangana, had been serving in the CISF since 2022.
The police were alerted following the incident, and an investigation is likely underway.
