In a recent development, Syed Waquar Raza has been appointed as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Murshidabad range in West Bengal. IPS officer Raza was on the post of Joint CP Crime of Kolkata Police.
Yesterday three names were sent from Nabanna- Syed Waqar Raza (2007 batch), Ranendranath Banerjee (2006), Devashmita Das (2009). ECI today approved Waquar Raza's name.
This decision follows the Election Commission's order on Monday, which directed the removal of the previous DIG due to instances of violence in the district and alleged "lack of supervision" to prevent further incidents, according to sources.
Two reported violent incidents in Murshidabad, involving the use of weapons and explosives were reported. As a result, IPS officer Mukesh, who held the position of DIG in the Murshidabad Range with the rank of IGP was removed a day earlier.
