In a new interview, Neena Gupta discussed her take on the murder of Shraddha Walkar and her alleged killer Aaftab Poonawala, saying she was inspired by movies and web shows, especially the crime drama Dexter, to carry it out. The veteran actor said that it is up to the individuals what they are inspired by. The actor added that respect for parents is also shown in movies and shows, so people should also realize this.

Aaftab was arrested last month for allegedly killing his 28-year-old partner Shraddha, cutting her body into pieces and disposing of them at various places in and around Delhi.  According to the police, before committing the crime, Aaftab watched many crime movies and web series, including the American series Dexter, which featured the lead character of a forensic technician who is a secret vigilante serial killer.

When asked if Aaftab was inspired by shows like Dexter, Neena Gupta told in an interview, “Acchi cheezein bhi toh dikhate hai, unse inspire nahi hote. Maa baap ke pair dabana toh nahi sikhte (why they don't learn moral values from movies and shows, we also show that). I think they have a problem up here (gestures towards head) and they need a doctor. It's an understatement to say that they were inspired by watching something on the screen.' The actor went on to talk about her upcoming film Vadh with Sanjay Mishra. The crime thriller revolves around two parents who are aging and struggling while their son leaves them.

Neena said in the same interview, “Be it movies, shows or even painting, everything shows what is happening around us. Why do you think the saas-bahu show worked so well? Women across felt happy that there were others going through the same problems in their families. They found the connection. If violence is projected, it is because violence is happening around. Now that same-sex relationships are being talked about, people are telling these stories on screen as well. Our film does not promote it in any way either. There is a reason behind everything they do." Vadh is written and directed by Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Rajeev Barnwal. It is presented by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg of Luv Films and produced by J Studio and Next Level Productions. The makers of the film recently released a BTS video in which Neena and Sanjay shared anecdotes from their early days and from their recent film. Neena and Sanjay attended the same acting school – National School Of Drama (NSD). In fact, Neena was Sanjay's senior in acting school.
