Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf Du Plessis and Punjab Kings skipper have faced penalties for their respective infractions, as announced by the IPL on Monday. Du Plessis has been fined Rs 12 lakh, while the Punjab Kings skipper incurred a penalty equivalent to 50 percent of his match fees.
Du Plessis faced the fine due to his team's slow over rate during RCB's recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, resulting in their seventh defeat of the season by just one run. This marks RCB's first over-rate transgression of the season.
According to an official release from the IPL, "The Captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mr. Faf du Plessis, has been fined for his team’s slow over-rate during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 21, 2024."
On the other hand, Curran of Punjab Kings faced a penalty for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. This offence pertains to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision" during PBKS' match against Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur.
