In a concerning trend emerging from West Bengal's Durgapur, youth are reportedly indulging in a dangerous practice dubbed as 'Condom Ka Nasha', where they soak flavoured condoms in warm water to create an intoxicating beverage. This practice has gained popularity among the youth, who claim that consuming the soaked water keeps them intoxicated for extended periods of time, sparking a surge in the sales of flavoured condoms in the area.
The addiction among the youth has led to a significant spike in the sales of flavoured condoms across Durgapur, with reports indicating that sales have skyrocketed in areas like Durgapur City Centre, Bidhannagar, Benachity, and Muchipara. The trend came to light when a student revealed the practice, highlighting its growing popularity among the youth residing in hostels. Flavoured condoms, easily accessible from medical stores without a prescription, have become a convenient and affordable means of intoxication compared to other substances like alcohol and cigarettes.
