Protests erupted in Monteswar as BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh's car was allegedly halted by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers on the road, obstructing his passage. TMC supporters even laid down in front of Ghosh's vehicle.
TMC workers started screaming Go-back and Jai Bangla slogans upon seeing Dilip Ghosh. Trying to hinder his movement, TMC workers laid down in front of his car, and even started pelting stones, damaging the security vehicle's window. A security guard was injured in this.
Earlier in the day, voting in the Burdwan-Durgapur constituency proceeded peacefully, with sporadic complaints but overall control maintained. Despite a heated campaign, including exchanges of insults between Kirti and Dilip, both candidates hugged each other. However, tensions flared later in the afternoon.
The Election Commission has been alerted to the incident, with calls from Delhi prompting a demand for a detailed report on the events. Authorities are expected to take action following the incident.
