The Union government has approved the establishment of a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) near Guwahati, Assam. On Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the new IIM will be located at Marabhita in Kamrup district. CM Sarma called it a special gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The prestigious IIM Ahmedabad will mentor the new IIM and prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in close consultation with the Assam government, as confirmed by a letter from the Ministry of Education. Sarma thanked Prime Minister Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for supporting this initiative.
CM Sarma emphasized that over the past 18 months, the state had presented a strong case to the Education Ministry, offering premier land and logistical support. He believes this new IIM will be a game-changer for Assam, making it an education hub in Eastern India and boosting the state's economic aspirations.
