INDIA bloc gains ground in key Hindi heartland states

The INDIA alliance made a significant comeback in several politically crucial Hindi heartland states. As of Tuesday, vote counting trends show the alliance leading in 42 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, with steady progress in Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana, and Jharkhand.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP-led alliance is on track to retain power for a third consecutive term, though not with the overwhelming majority predicted by exit polls.

The opposition bloc's performance in Uttar Pradesh is being seen as a big surprise for the BJP that had almost swept the polls in 2014 with a stunning performance of coming out victorious in 71 seats and held its ground in 2019 by winning 62.

In Rajasthan, the BJP is leading in 14 seats, while Congress is ahead in eight. CPI, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, and Bharat Adivasi Party are leading in one seat each. The BJP had previously won all 25 seats in the 2019 elections.

In Bihar, the INDIA alliance has made inroads with Rashtriya Janata Dal leading in four seats, Congress in two, and CPI in two. The National Democratic Alliance is leading in 31 seats, with BJP ahead in 12, JD(U) in 14, and Lok Janshakti Party in five.

In Jharkhand, the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha are leading in three and two seats, respectively. The BJP is ahead in eight seats, with its ally AJSU Party leading in one. However, the NDA continued its dominance in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Chhattisgarh.
