NaMo can take oath as PM on 8th June's eve, submits resignation to President Murmu

A day after the election results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Cabinet submitted their resignations to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday. Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed in an official statement that President Murmu accepted their resignations and requested PM Modi to continue until a new government takes office, said a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi chaired the last Cabinet meeting of the 17th Lok Sabha to review the election results and discuss the formation of the next government. The Cabinet also recommended the dissolution of the current Lok Sabha, whose term ends on June 16.

People familiar with the matter said the cabinet meeting to recommend dissolution of the Lok Sabha was held at the prime minister’s residence at about 11:30am

The BJP-led NDA won a majority in the 543-member house, with the BJP securing 240 seats and the Congress obtaining 99 seats.
