Bengal Bypolls: BJP agent prevented from entering booth in Naihati, Clash erupted in Haroa - LIVE
In a big win ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren wins the trust vote on Monday. The JMM chief managed to secure the support of 45 legislators. He moved a confidence motion after he took office earlier this week when he got bail from the Jharkhand High Court in connection with an alleged land scam.
The ruling alliance, led by Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has 45 MLAs -- JMM-27, Congress-17, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 1 in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly. BJP-led Opposition has 30 MLAs. The total strength of the House came down to 76 after some members were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recently conducted general elections, reducing the halfway mark to 38.
Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto allotted one hour for debate on the confidence motion. The JMM leader was sworn in as the Chief Minister on July 4, a day after his predecessor Champai Soren stepped down from the post.
