Two back-to-back hit-and-run cases have been reported from Pune within 4 hours. Unfortunately, two police constables were killed and another was critically injured in two separate accidents in Pune’s Bopodi and Pimple Saudagar areas within four hours between Sunday night and the early hours of Monday. The Pune police said they have arrested the driver of the car in the Bopodi hit-and-run case.
According to the Pune police, constable Samadhan Koli, 42, was killed, and Sanjog Shinde, 36, was critically injured in the hit-and-run case and is currently being treated at a private hospital. Officers from Khadki Police Station said the accident took place around 1.30 am on Monday at Bopodi underpass.
“The two constables were on their night patrolling round when their bike was hit by a vehicle near Bopodi underpass. Constable Koli succumbed to his injuries and Constable Shinde is critical. We have launched a probe to identify the vehicle and the driver,” said Girish Dighavkar, Senior Inspector in charge of the Khadki Police Station.
Vijaykumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the driver of the car identified as Siddharth Raju Kengar alias Gotya, 24. “He has been detained and the car has been seized. He was detained from his home. He has been sent for medical examination at Sassoon Hospital,” said Magar.
In the second accident, police constable Sachin Vishnu Mane, 48, was killed after his two-wheeler was hit by an unidentified vehicle in the Pimple Saudagar area around 10.30 pm on Sunday.
