Delhi Capitals sack Ricky Ponting after 7 years; Sourav Ganguly likely to be new coach

A trophy-less Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) have decided to part ways with Australian legend Ricky Ponting. Ponting has on the position of head coach of the side for 7 years.

Sourav Ganguly, who held an Advisor's role at DC under Ponting's tenure, might take over the vacant spot upon the Australian's sacking. Throughout his tenure, Ponting's best result was in 2020 when the side reached finals but lost to Mumbai Indians.

Ganguly joined DC back ahead of IPL 2019 and has since held second in command under Ponting, but this sudden development set up an entirely new era for the IPL franchise.

The team is going to get an all-new squad as well as there will be a mega auction for 2025. There have been some reports that suggest that the BCCI may retain the 3+1 retention rule in the IPL
