The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two women with 65 kg of ganja at Howrah station. The women were trying to smuggle the ganja from Hajipur in Bihar. "The RPF jawans noticed two women entering the station premises from the subway end with several trolley bags. The security personnel immediately stopped them and enquired about the bags," a senior RPF official said.
Initially hesitant, the women eventually confessed that they were carrying ganja. The bags were opened and 65 kg of ganja was found in them. The women, along with the seized ganja, were handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for necessary legal action.
One of the women has been identified as Sarita Devi (45), a resident of Vaishali in Bihar. The other woman, who is possibly a minor, is a resident of Hajipur. The women claimed that they were only couriers and had received the bags from an unknown person at the bus stand outside Howrah station. Further investigation revealed that the seized ganja had come by bus from Ganjam district of Odisha.
