West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticized the recent Union Budget, accusing the central government of political discrimination against her state and others. Before her departure to Delhi, Mamata expressed her intent to raise these issues during the NITI Aayog meeting scheduled for Saturday.
Addressing the media, Mamata stated that she would protest against what she views as unfair treatment towards West Bengal, attributing it to a broader agenda by BJP leaders. She claimed that the BJP's actions aim to create a geographical and economic blockade against West Bengal and neighboring states such as Jharkhand, Bihar, and others. Mamata accused BJP leaders of attempting to divide these regions through political maneuvers, which she condemned vehemently.
The Chief Minister highlighted that she was asked to submit a written speech a week before the meeting before the Union Budget was tabled. She has complied with this request but made it clear that if she is allowed to speak at the meeting, she will use the opportunity to record her protest against the budget's discriminatory nature and the political bias faced by opposition-ruled states. Mamata also indicated that if she is not given the chance to speak, she is prepared to walk out of the meeting in protest.
Several opposition-ruled states, discontented with the Union Budget, have already decided to boycott the NITI Aayog meeting. Mamata Banerjee’s stance aligns with this broader discontent, aiming to draw attention to what she describes as a significant issue of political discrimination and regional bias.
Mamata’s planned visit to Delhi will include meetings with party MPs and other engagements, such as a tea ceremony with national media representatives. Despite the planned boycott by several chief ministers from opposition states, Mamata remains committed to participating in the NITI Aayog meeting to voice her concerns.
