Kolkata bus owners seek relaxation of rules for 15-year-old buses, file petition in High Court
The BJP members staged a protest in the West Bengal Assembly demanding the resignation of Minister Firhad Hakim. The protest followed remarks made by Hakim, on religious conversion, that the BJP found objectionable, leading to a heated session in the Assembly.
The BJP brought forward a proposal in the Assembly aimed at addressing Hakim’s comments. However, Speaker Biman Banerjee rejected the proposal, stating that the matter was not appropriate for discussion in the Assembly. This rejection ignited a series of actions by BJP MLAs who were visibly agitated by the outcome.
In response, BJP MLAs began chanting slogans inside the session hall while holding copies of the Gita, a gesture underscoring their protest. They subsequently left the Assembly hall and took their protest to the streets. Outside the Assembly, they formed a human chain and vocally demanded Firhad Hakim’s resignation from the state cabinet.
Opposition Leader Subhendu Adhikari, who led the protest, declared that the agitation would persist until Firhad Hakim was removed from his position.
