Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
A Bangladeshi citizen, posing as an Indian, was apprehended at Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport while allegedly attempting to fly to Thailand on a fake tourist visa, officials revealed. The incident occurred on Friday during routine immigration checks for passengers boarding flight FD-147 from Lucknow to Bangkok.
Immigration Officer Rakesh Kumar Yadav reported that the suspect, who initially identified himself as Ashish Rai, presented a passport and Aadhaar card listing an address in Rathtala, Singur, Hooghly district, West Bengal. However, upon closer examination, the documents raised suspicions, prompting further interrogation.
During questioning, it was discovered that the individual was actually Shimul Barua from Shilghata, Chopachhari, Satkania, Chattogram, Bangladesh. Barua had allegedly altered his identity and secured an Indian passport and Aadhaar card using fraudulent documents associated with the West Bengal address.
Following the revelation, Barua was taken into custody and booked at Sarojini Nagar Police Station on Saturday. A Bangladeshi passport was also found in his possession. Station in-charge Shailendra Giri confirmed that Barua is currently being questioned to uncover further details about his activities and how he managed to obtain the fake Indian documents.
