A man identified as Wasid Malick, also known as Intekhab Alam (23 years), has been arrested in Kolkata for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy. The incident took place on July 13 around 8:30 PM, when Malick reportedly assaulted the minor.
The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by the boy’s mother at Watgunge police station. The case has been registered under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which underscores the seriousness of the offense.
After the arrest, the police are making necessary arrangements for conducting preliminary medical examinations of both the victim and the accused. The medical examination is a standard procedure to gather further evidence and ensure the well-being of both parties involved.
In consultation with the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Kolkata, the minor victim will be sent to a safe shelter to ensure his safety and well-being during the ongoing investigation.
The accused, Wasid Malick, is scheduled to be presented before the Learned Court on August 11, 2024. The police will request custody to continue their investigation and gather more evidence related to the case.
