RG Kar case will be probed by CBI, says Calcutta High Court

The Calcutta High Court today ordered the transfer of the investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court noted serious lapses on the response of the hospital administration after the doctor was found dead in its seminar hall on Friday morning, her clothes in disarray and injuries all over her body.

The decision comes as public outrage over the heinous crime continues to grow, with medical professionals and students demanding swift justice and enhanced security in medical institutions.

The High Court's decision comes days after CM Mamata Banerjee gave a deadline to Kolkata Police. She announced that if Kolkata police will not be able to conclude the investigation by Sunday, the case will be transferred to CBI.

The tragic incident has sparked protests nationwide, with doctors and medical students expressing their anger and frustration over the safety of healthcare workers, particularly women.

The victim, a second-year postgraduate student, was found brutally assaulted and murdered on the college campus, leading to calls for stronger security measures in educational and medical institutions.
