Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
A devastating accident on the national highway near Gaurbanga station in the English Bazar police station area of Malda claimed the lives of six young individuals late on Saturday night. The tragic incident occurred when a Xylo car, carrying seven people, lost control and collided with a lorry. The front portion of the car was severely damaged, resulting in the immediate deaths of five passengers, while two others were critically injured.
The victims, all in their twenties, were reportedly traveling from Kaliachak towards Malda when the accident occurred. The impact was so severe that one rider's head was dislodged and fell onto the road. Upon receiving information about the accident, authorities from the National Highway Authority and local police rushed to the scene and rescued the injured.
All seven were transported to Malda Medical College Hospital, where five were declared dead on arrival. During treatment, another victim succumbed to injuries, raising the death toll to six.
The injured victim remains in critical condition, and medical teams are making all possible efforts to save their life. The families of the deceased and injured, who reside in Alipur, Kaliachak, were informed of the tragic news and rushed to the accident site. One of the grieving fathers expressed his shock, stating that he was unaware of his son's whereabouts until he received the heartbreaking call about the accident.
