Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
The West Bengal Police on Tuesday arrested a man who had threatened to rape the minor daughter of Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee. The accused, identified as Masadul Mollah, is a resident of Mothabari under the Minakhan block of North 24 Parganas district.
The arrest followed the circulation of a video showing a person reportedly making the threat during a protest rally organized against the rape and murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. According to police sources, Mollah issued the threat while participating in the rally on August 25, which was organized by the All India Secular Front (AISF).
The arrest came a day the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) took note of the threat after its video went viral online, called for “police and judicial action” under the Pocso Act, the Juvenile Justice Act, and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child against the man and other demonstrators who were seen cheering him on.
