North Kolkata filtered water supply to be disrupted on Dec 16-17 due to Tallah Pump repairs
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announces the cancellation of the two-hour namaz break on Fridays in the Assam Legislative Assembly, aiming to enhance productivity and move away from colonial-era practices. The decision, revealed on Friday, ends the longstanding provision that allowed Muslim lawmakers and staff members to take a break for Friday prayers.
"By doing away with the 2-hour Jumma break, Assam Assembly has prioritised productivity and shed another vestige of colonial baggage," Sarma stated.
The Chief Minister said that the Assembly should operate without any religious considerations. The decision was made unanimously by all Assembly members, ending the practice of a two-hour break from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Fridays. The Assembly will now start its proceedings at 9:30 am every day, including Fridays.
