Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday strongly condemned the use of drones to bomb civilian areas in the state, labeling it as an act of terrorism. In a post on X, Singh stated, "Dropping of bombs on civilian population and security forces by using drones is an act of terrorism and I condemn such cowardly acts in the strongest terms."
The chief minister's remarks followed a recent drone attack on Monday evening in the Imphal West district, which injured three people, including a 23-year-old woman. Singh assured the public that the Manipur government is taking the incident seriously and will respond appropriately.
The attack occurred around 6:20 pm in the Senjam Chirang locality, where suspected militants used drones to drop explosives. The woman sustained injuries after a bomb pierced through her home's roof and exploded inside. Two others were also injured and have been hospitalized. This incident marks the second drone attack in the area within two days.
