Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has called for the withdrawal of the police medal awarded to Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. In letters addressed to President Draupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Adhikari cited Goyal's "reprehensible, deplorable, and shameful conduct" during the investigation of the rape and murder case involving a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
Adhikari criticized Goyal's role in the case, accusing him of attempting to sabotage the investigation and protect political interests. The demand comes amid widespread protests by junior doctors and the public, who are seeking justice in the RG Kar case and questioning the actions of the police.
Adhikari shared his letter to the President on social media, stating that Goyal's actions make him "unworthy of retaining such awards."
"His brazen attempts to sabotage the investigations into what is possibly the most heinous and sensitive crime in the country today to pander to the whims of the political executive of the state, with an intent to camouflage the financial and moral racket running in the health sector in West Bengal, makes him unworthy of retaining such awards," reads his post.
