Kolkata bus owners seek relaxation of rules for 15-year-old buses, file petition in High Court
As the case of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata marks a month, protests continue to rage across West Bengal as people continue to reel from the horrific crime. Protesting junior doctors in West Bengal have said that they would defy the Supreme Court's orders to resume work by 5 pm on Tuesday.
The junior doctors in Kolkata who have been protesting against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor have taken out a march to Swasthya Bhawan on Tuesday. The protestors will demand the resignation of the health secretary and Director of Health Education (DHE).
"Our demands have not been met and the victim has not received justice," said the protesting doctors adding that they will continue their agitation. "We want the Health Secretary and DHE to resign," they said.
On Monday, West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front issued a press release expressing their displeasure over the Supreme Court hearing over the case. The apex court directed the doctors who are abstaining from work in protest to immediately resume work.
"We want to ensure that the doctors resume work. Doctors are in the system to render the service to patients. We will provide every kind of security to doctors, but they also have to reciprocate." Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said during the hearing.
In response to the judgment, the doctors said that the case has been handed around from CBI to the Supreme Court and Kolkata Police "yet justice remains distant."
