India beats Bangladesh by 7 wickets in first T20, chase down total in 11.5 overs
On Tuesday, a special CBI court ordered former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, along with his security guard Afsar Ali and two alleged associates, contractor Biplab Singha and Suman Hazra, to judicial custody until September 23 in connection with a financial irregularities case.
While the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had initially sought custody of Ghosh, the agency did not request an extension of his detention at this time. However, if further interrogation is required, the CBI may seek his custody again.
Earlier, the CBI had requested a virtual hearing for Ghosh, presenting him from Nizam Palace via video link, but this application was rejected by the judge. The court insisted on a physical presentation of all four accused in court. This decision followed chaotic scenes that emerged during Ghosh’s court appearance on September 3, leading the CBI to make the virtual hearing request.
Sandip Ghosh was arrested on September 2 amid protests surrounding the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, though his charges are related to alleged financial mismanagement. He was initially placed in CBI custody for eight days after his September 3 appearance in court.
