Kolkata bus owners seek relaxation of rules for 15-year-old buses, file petition in High Court
On Wednesday morning, passengers faced significant delays at the Howrah Maidan metro station in Kolkata when the metro doors failed to close due to overcrowding. The incident occurred around 10:16 am, causing the train to stand at the station for about 20 minutes.
Passengers reported that the automatic doors were opening and closing repeatedly, preventing the train from departing on time.
The metro driver had to exit the train to resolve the situation, but the heavy crowd inside made it difficult to close the doors. After multiple attempts, the driver was able to secure the doors, and the train finally departed. Commuters expressed frustration, especially as this occurred during peak office hours.
Many passengers voiced their concerns about recurring technical issues in the Kolkata Metro, particularly on the Howrah line. They claim that despite the growing number of passengers, the frequency of trains has not increased, leading to overcrowding and delays. Some even criticized metro officials for their indifference to these frequent problems.
