'If terrorism is a rabid dog, Pakistan is its wild handler': Abhishek Banerjee in Japan
In a troubling incident in South Dinajpur district, the alleged rape of four tribal women has ignited widespread outrage and protests. Local tribal groups have accused authorities of failing to maintain law and order, leading to escalating tensions in the community. In response, the BJP Adivasi Morcha staged a significant protest on Friday, surrounding the office of the Superintendent of Police in Balurghat and demanding severe punishment for the perpetrators.
Led by BJP Adivasi Morcha state president and MLA Jewel Murmu, along with Tapan MLA Budhrai Tudu and district president Sushil Mardi, the protesters marched from the Balurghat Mangalpur area to the SP office. The demonstration took a chaotic turn as protestors attempted to breach police barriers, which were reinforced with bamboo and barbed wire. Clashes erupted between the demonstrators and law enforcement, resulting in injuries to both BJP MLA Budhrai Tudu and DSP Head Quarter Vikram Prasad.
Despite the tensions, the situation eventually calmed when police agreed to meet with a delegation of protest leaders. The Adivasi Morcha expressed their frustration over what they termed the inaction of the Dakshin Dinajpur District Police regarding ongoing atrocities against tribal communities. During the protest, they submitted six demands to the Superintendent of Police, clearly stating that if their requests were not addressed, they would escalate their movement in the coming days.
The unrest highlights the ongoing struggles faced by tribal communities in the region, calling attention to issues of violence and the need for greater protection and support from authorities.
