A major controversy erupted after lab findings confirmed the presence of animal fat and impurities in the ghee used for preparing the famous Tirupati laddoos. This revelation came after 300 kilograms of the prasad were distributed during the Ram Mandir consecration event in Ayodhya. Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram Temple, confirmed the distribution and expressed outrage, calling for strict action against those responsible if the use of animal fat in the prasad is proven.
The ghee used for the laddoos was supplied by a contractor who has since been blacklisted, with legal proceedings initiated against them. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration of compromising the sanctity of the Tirupati laddoos by using substandard ghee during his tenure. Naidu claimed that these impurities, including animal fats, were confirmed by four independent tests. In defense, Jagan Mohan Reddy dismissed the accusations as diversionary tactics.
The Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanams (TTD), the governing body of the temple, reassured devotees that the purity of the laddoos has been restored. New ghee suppliers, such as Karnataka’s Nandini brand, have been brought in to ensure the sanctity of the prasad. Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi have called for thorough investigations into the matter.
