Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden met at Biden’s residence in Delaware during the Quad Summit to discuss key bilateral issues. One of the major outcomes of the talks was India’s acquisition of 31 MQ-9B Predator drones. These drones, known for their advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, will enhance India’s defense systems. The MQ-9B drones, equipped with both air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, can operate with remarkable stealth and fly at high altitudes.
Another significant development discussed was the establishment of a semiconductor fabrication plant in Kolkata. This facility, set up in collaboration with Bharat Semi, 3rdiTech, and the US Space Force, will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as AI, green energy, and national security. The plant is expected to boost India's tech industry and foster innovation in areas like connected vehicles, IoT devices, and data centers.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of the growing strategic partnership between India and the US, particularly in defense and technology sectors. They highlighted the success of the India-US Defense Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) initiative, which was launched in 2023 to strengthen defense collaboration. Modi and Biden expressed confidence in the partnership’s future potential.
The talks also touched on regional and global issues, including the Indo-Pacific region, with both leaders affirming their commitment to deeper cooperation.
