A 20-year-old second-year law student, Gourab Dutta, tragically took his own life on Friday night after jumping from a state housing complex in Salt Lake’s FF Block. His death has raised concerns about student safety and mental health.
Dutta was reportedly assaulted by fellow students outside the gates of New Town's Amity University, which has left his family and friends in shock. After the incident, he was discovered lying on the ground with multiple fractures and bruises. Despite being rushed to a private hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
His parents expressed their concern, stating that Gourab had been feeling depressed since the assault. They indicated that the psychological impact of the altercation might have contributed to his tragic decision to take such a drastic step. The police have initiated an investigation, treating the incident as an unnatural death. They have lodged a case and plan to question other students to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding Dutta’s death.
An autopsy is scheduled at R G Kar Hospital, which will help confirm the exact cause of death. A spokesperson for the university assured that they are cooperating with the police investigation, emphasizing the institution's commitment to student safety.
